BINTANGOR: The proposed development of the Bintangor Riverfront is expected to boost local economic and tourism activities by improving public facilities and infrastructure.
Meradong assemblyman Datuk Ding Kuong Hiing said the project is among efforts to further develop Bintangor under the Rajang Delta Development Agency (RADDA).
He said the project is currently awaiting final approval, including site approval from the State Planning Authority (SPA).
“For now, we are obtaining the final approval or site approval from the SPA. If everything goes smoothly, we hope the tender can be called by the end of this year and the project can begin next year,” he said.
He said this when met by reporters after chairing the Meradong Festival Main Committee Coordination Meeting at the Meradong District Office here today (Aug 17).
He added that the project would focus on upgrading the riverfront area, including facilities and infrastructure, to improve its comfort and usability for the community.
He said the area had the potential to become a venue for various community activities as well as an attraction for visitors, while creating opportunities for small-scale operators and local traders to generate income.
He said the development of the Bintangor Riverfront should be viewed from a long-term perspective as it had the potential to support the growth of the tourism and economic sectors in the surrounding areas.
“When the area has better facilities, it will not only benefit residents but can also provide space to expand economic and tourism activities,” he said.
The development is also expected to contribute to efforts to enhance Bintangor’s image as one of the growth centres in the Meradong District.
