KUCHING: Senior Immigration officers have been urged to equip younger personnel with the knowledge and expertise needed to meet increasingly complex challenges.

Sarawak Federal Secretary Datuk Ahmad Nadzri Mohd Hassan said experienced officers should not allow their expertise and institutional knowledge to end with them.

Instead, he said, those in leadership positions had a responsibility to guide younger officers and prepare them to eventually take on greater responsibilities.

“I hope directors and heads of divisions and units at all branches will guide and educate the officers under their supervision because we are responsible for leaving a legacy of knowledge to the younger generation,” he said.

Ahmad Nadzri was speaking at the state-level 104th Immigration Day celebration at Bangunan Sultan Iskandar here today (Aug 18), according to a report by the Sarawak Information Department (JaPen).

He also acknowledged the contribution of Immigration personnel stationed at entry points and borders, where they play a frontline role in safeguarding national security and sovereignty.

Touching on the department’s performance, Ahmad Nadzri cited its passport services as an example of improvements in public service delivery, with applications capable of being processed within an hour.

Meanwhile, Sarawak Immigration director Abdul Halim Abang Naili said digitalisation would remain among the department’s priorities as it seeks to make immigration services faster and less reliant on manual processes.

He said the department was also focusing on improving service delivery, strengthening security at entry points and borders, and supporting economic development.

He called on personnel to maintain professionalism in carrying out their duties and be receptive to public feedback as part of efforts to continuously improve its services.
