KUCHING: Schools in Kuching, Padawan, Bau, Lundu, Serian and Samarahan districts have been ordered to close immediately from today (Aug 20) until Aug 21 due to haze affecting air quality in the areas.
The Sarawak State Education Department (JPNS) said the decision was taken as a precautionary measure to safeguard the health, safety and well-being of students and school personnel.
“The decision was made as a precautionary measure to safeguard the safety, health and well-being of students and school personnel, particularly from the risks associated with exposure to unhealthy air,” the department said in a statement posted on its official Facebook page.
During the closure period, schools are required to implement Home-Based Teaching and Learning (PdPR) for the students.
“Throughout the school closure period, PdPR shall be implemented to ensure the continuity of students’ learning.
“Any further updates regarding the duration of the school closure and the reopening of schools will be announced through the official channels of the Sarawak State Education Department and District Education Offices,” it said
