MIRI: Police issued 20 traffic summonses after inspecting just 15 motorcycles during a five-hour enforcement operation targeting motorcycle-related offences and activities linked to road hooliganism in Miri.
The operation, conducted by the Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Division of Miri District Police Headquarters from 5 pm to 10 pm on Thursday (Aug 20), covered several locations including Jalan Bintang, Jalan Marina, Miri Bypass and the Grand Old Lady area.
Miri district police chief ACP Mohd Farhan Lee Abdullah said the operation was carried out to curb activities that could endanger road users, disrupt traffic and threaten public order.
Police inspected 18 people, comprising 17 men and one woman, along with 15 motorcycles.
The checks resulted in 20 summonses being issued for various traffic and technical offences.
Among the offences detected were riding without a driving licence, unauthorised structural modifications, modified exhaust systems producing excessive noise, missing side mirrors, motorcycles without registration plates and the use of customised or “fancy” registration numbers.
Farhan said police would take firm action against individuals involved in activities that could put themselves and other road users at risk.
He urged motorcyclists to comply with traffic laws and refrain from making modifications that do not comply with the vehicle’s original specifications.
He also called on the public to report information on suspected road-hooligan activities to Miri District Police Headquarters or the nearest police station.
The operation forms part of ongoing enforcement efforts to maintain road safety and public order in Miri.
