SERIAN: The ongoing haze has forced changes to the Maulidur Rasul 1448H/2026 celebration at the Serian divisional level, including the cancellation of its procession.
The Serian Division Islamic Festival Standing Committee said the changes were made following unhealthy Air Pollutant Index (API) readings in the division, taking into consideration the safety and health of participants.
The celebration will proceed on Tuesday (Aug. 25), but will be moved from the Serian Conference Centre (SCC) to Dewan Panggang at the Serian Division Sarawak Government Administration Centre (PPKS).
The original programme, which comprised an assembly and procession, has also been revised to an assembly only, with the procession cancelled.
Serian Member of Parliament, Datuk Seri Richard Riot Jaem, is scheduled to be the guest of honour at the event.
Despite the change in format, the committee said judging of contingents would still be carried out based on their banners and contingents at the PPKS parking area.
The committee apologised for any inconvenience arising from the changes and expressed appreciation for the cooperation and understanding of all parties involved.
