BINTULU: Forty-five Bidayuh secondary school students here were given greater exposure to higher education and career pathways through an education programme organised by the Dayak Bidayuh National Association (DBNA) Bintulu Branch.

The ‘Ceramah Pendidikan Generasi Muda Bidayuh’ programme, themed ‘Pendidikan Bermutu, Masa Depan Terarah’, was held at Li Hua Hotel here recently.

According to a programme report by DBNA Bintulu, the initiative was aimed at helping young Bidayuh students better understand their education and career options while encouraging them to plan for their future.

“It also sought to build their motivation, self-confidence and decision-making skills, as well as strengthen cooperation between the Bidayuh community, schools and educational institutions,” it said.

“A total of 75 participants attended the programme, comprising 45 secondary school students and 30 teachers and parents from the Bidayuh community in Bintulu.”

The programme featured five talks delivered by speakers from i-CATS University College covering education, post-SPM pathways, career choices, emerging technologies and financial assistance for higher education.

Among the topics discussed were options available to students after SPM, including university education, technical and vocational education and training (TVET), professional qualifications, entrepreneurship and employment.

Students were also exposed to ways of matching their interests, strengths and personalities with suitable programmes of study and future careers.

Another session focused on emerging careers related to artificial intelligence (AI), technology and Industry 4.0, including skills needed to remain relevant in the future job market.

The programme also provided information on scholarships, study loans and other forms of financial assistance available to students pursuing higher education.

DBNA Bintulu said the programme had helped participants gain a better understanding of educational opportunities while encouraging students to set realistic academic and career goals.

It also noted greater awareness among parents of the importance of providing educational and emotional support for their children.

“The education programme should be held annually and expanded to DBNA branches throughout Sarawak,” it concluded.
