TELOK MELANO: The Temajuk-Telok Melano border crossing has been reactivated, restoring cross-border connectivity while paving the way for greater movement, trade and business activities between the two areas.

The Sarawak Immigration Department said the reactivation would facilitate movement between Telok Melano in Sarawak and Temajuk in West Kalimantan, particularly for communities living along the border.

It said the facility would also provide greater opportunities for economic and business activities in both areas.

“The reactivation of Temajuk Border Crossing Post (PLB)-Telok Melano Border Control Post (PKS) has been eagerly awaited by local communities as it strengthens connectivity between the two border areas.

“The facility will not only facilitate the movement of people but also has the potential to stimulate economic activities and create more business opportunities in Temajuk and Telok Melano,” it said in a statement.

A pre-launch ceremony for the reactivation was held at the Temajuk PLB on Friday (Aug 21).

The ceremony was officiated by West Kalimantan Deputy Governor Krisantus Kurniawan, while Sarawak Customs director Datuk Norizan Yahya represented Malaysia.

Sarawak Immigration deputy director (Management) Roslinda Hanim Mohd Yusoff was also present, along with Kuching Resident Dayang Joanita Azizah Abang Morshidi and representatives from the Sarawak government and relevant agencies.

The department said the reactivation also reflected continued cooperation between Malaysia and Indonesia in strengthening cross-border ties and relations between communities in both countries.

It added that improved connectivity through the crossing would support socioeconomic development in the border areas.
