MIRI: The success of Mona Julius in obtaining Malaysian citizenship with the “K” indicator has paved the way for smoother official dealings, including documentation for her two children.
Deputy Minister of Tourism, Creative Industry and Performing Arts cum Piasau assemblyman Datuk Sebastian Ting said the achievement demonstrated the importance of continued efforts to assist locals facing documentation and citizenship issues.
He said Mona’s application was previously submitted after her husband, Jonathan Ngo, sought assistance as his wife had yet to obtain an identity card because she had not been registered by her parents previously.
“With the assistance of my colleague, Chia, we helped manage the application until Mona finally succeeded in obtaining Malaysian citizenship with ‘K’ status,” he told reporters at the SUPP Piasau Service Centre today .
He added that the achievement was significant as possessing valid identification documents not only facilitated Mona in official matters but also had a positive impact on her entire family.
Meanwhile, Ngo expressed his appreciation to Ting for the assistance provided throughout the citizenship application process.
He said after his wife obtained her identity card, various family matters had become smoother and easier, including matters involving the children’s education and travelling abroad.
Mona’s success also reflected the importance of efforts to address issues faced by locals who still do not possess identification documents and whose citizenship status remains unclear.
The Special Task Force (PPK), which was reactivated in July 2023 through strategic cooperation between the Ministry of Home Affairs (KDN) and the Sarawak government under the Ministry of Women, Children and Community Well-being Development, continues to play a role in helping resolve issues related to documentation and citizenship.
