KUCHING: Two local men were caught with suspected party drugs in Pending after police found ketamine and ecstasy pills worth RM812 in their possession.

The suspects, aged 28 and 32, were arrested by the Narcotics Crime Investigation Division (NCID) at around 6.50 pm on Friday (Aug 28).

Kuching police chief ACP Alexson Naga Chabu said the team seized 5.25g of suspected ketamine and 11 ecstasy pills weighing 4.60g.

The arrest proved more troubling for the 28-year-old, who tested positive for ketamine in a preliminary urine screening.

His companion, meanwhile, tested negative for drugs.

“Background checks found that neither of them had any prior criminal record.

“The suspects have been remanded for four days until Sept 2 to facilitate investigations under Section 39A(1) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952.

“If convicted, they face up to five years in prison and up to nine strokes of whipping,” he said.

Alexson stated that the arrests were the result of continued intelligence-gathering and cooperation from members of the public.

Police will not compromise with any party involved in drug trafficking as possessing, distributing or protecting drug activities is a serious offence under the law.

Members of the public are urged to continue sharing information with Bukit Aman NCID at 012-2087222 or Sarawak NCID at 017-5929211.
