KUCHING: Kuching North City Hall (DBKU) has earned international recognition after being named a “Healthy City Expert” by the Alliance for Healthy Cities (AFHC).
The recognition was presented during the 11th Global Conference for the Alliance for Healthy Cities 2026, held in Sydney, Australia, from Sept 1 to 3.
DBKU Mayor Datuk Hilmy Othman received the recognition alongside acting Deputy State Secretary (Economic Planning and Development) Datuk Awang Mohammad Fadillah Awang Redzuan.
DBKU said the recognition reflects its commitment to strengthening community inclusivity, particularly through its Kejiranan Mesra initiative and other programmes that encourage communities to take an active role in local socioeconomic development.
“These initiatives form part of our efforts to build a city that is not only progressive, but also inclusive, safe, sustainable and liveable.
“The international recognition also demonstrates that the community-centred approach adopted in Kuching has gained attention at the global level,” it said in a post shared on its official social media platform.
DBKU described the recognition as another proud achievement for Sarawak and a testament to its ongoing efforts to place communities at the heart of urban development.
