SPAOH: The newly completed farm road upgrading project at Rumah Panjang Raba Tiput in Layar has improved access to agricultural areas, easing movement for residents and supporting their farming activities.
Previously a gravel road, the route was difficult to navigate, especially across the hilly terrain of Raba Tiput.
Its upgrading to a concrete surface has now provided residents with safer and more convenient access for their daily travel and farming activities.
Implemented by the Betong Divisional Public Works Department (PWD), the project was completed as scheduled and met the stipulated specifications, workmanship and quality standards.
A completion handover ceremony held recently was attended by Betong Divisional PWD representative Khairuldin, BDDA representative Jordan Evin, Tuai Rumah Patrick Bikal, representatives from the Bukit Saban State Assemblyman’s Service Centre, and representatives of the contractor, JS Dynamic Enterprise.
Deputy Premier and Bukit Saban assemblyman Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas said the facility would ease residents’ movement and facilitate the transportation of agricultural produce.
“We know that the road conditions were quite challenging previously, especially given the hilly terrain. With the improved road, residents can travel to their farms more comfortably, while transporting their produce will also become easier,” he said in a Facebook post.
He said the facility should be properly utilised to support residents in continuing their agricultural activities.
“I hope this facility will be used and well maintained collectively. What is important is that this road can help residents continue their agricultural activities and increase their family incomes,” he said.
Meanwhile, Tuai Rumah Patrick Bikal expressed satisfaction with the project and conveyed his appreciation to Uggah and the Sarawak government for the allocation provided through BDDA.
