KAPIT: A total of 44 longhouses in the Bukit Goram constituency received RM499,000 in Minor Rural Project grants during a presentation ceremony at Meligai Hotel here today.
The grants were presented by Deputy Minister in the Premier’s Department (Native Laws and Customs), Datuk Jefferson Jamit Unyat, who is also the Bukit Goram assemblyman.
The recipients comprised Village Security and Development Committees representing longhouses along the Batang Rajang, including Yong and Menuan.
Jamit said the allocation reflected the Sarawak Government’s continued commitment to ensuring development reaches grassroots communities, particularly those in rural and interior areas.
At the function, he called on village headmen and community leaders to continue supporting the Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) government led by Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg.
He said continued support for the government was important to ensure Bukit Goram would continue to benefit from development opportunities and government initiatives.
Meanwhile, the 44 village chiefs representing their respective longhouses pledged their support for Jamit, the incumbent GPS candidate for Bukit Goram, expressing their hope that he would secure a bigger majority in the coming general election.
Also present were Pemanca Pasang Tuba, Penghulu James Sandak, Penghulu Unya Kendawang, Upper Rajang Development Agency’s (URDA) Community Liaison Officer Kelimbik Sibat, and Kapit District Council’s Deputy Chairman, Councillor Martin Bilun
