SPAOH: A total of 247 farmers in Bukit Saban have received pesticide assistance to help ease agricultural input costs and support preparations for the 2026 paddy planting season.
The assistance was distributed through a programme organised by the Bukit Saban State Service Centre here on Thursday (Sept 3).
Sarawak Deputy Premier and Bukit Saban assemblyman, Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas said the assistance was important in helping farmers manage cultivation costs while ensuring that their agricultural activities could continue smoothly.
“Assistance such as this is hoped to ease the burden on farmers, especially in managing the cost of agricultural inputs.
“At the same time, we want to ensure that they can continue their planting activities in a more organised and effective manner,” he said on his Facebook Page today (Sept 5).
Uggah said continued support for farmers was crucial to ensure that the agricultural sector in rural areas remained active and continued contributing to the wellbeing of local communities.
He added that the assistance should be put to good use to help improve crop yields and support the continued growth of farmers’ agricultural activities.
The programme also supports efforts to strengthen the rural economy, in line with the aspirations of the Post COVID-19 Development Strategy 2030, which places agriculture among the important sectors for Sarawak’s inclusive and sustainable development.
Bukit Saban Service Centre’s representative, Nahariah Mohd Spawi attended on behalf of Uggah and presented the symbolic assistance to the recipients.
The initiative is expected to help facilitate preparations for the upcoming planting season while supporting efforts to improve productivity and paddy yields among farmers in the Bukit Saban area.
