SIBU: University of Technology Sarawak (UTS) is stepping up efforts to strengthen strategic partnerships with the government, industry, educational institutions and communities as part of its broader role in advancing education and development in Sarawak.
UTS Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr Mohammad Shahril Osman said strong partnerships were not merely important to the university’s growth, but were also essential in ensuring its expertise, research and talent development translated into wider benefits for society.
He said collaboration in education, research, student development, community engagement, public services and industry would remain key areas as UTS continued to expand its contribution to the state’s development agenda.
“At UTS, we believe meaningful progress can only be achieved through strong collaboration,” he said at the UTS 2026 Appreciation Dinner held at a prominent hotel here on Friday.
Mohammad Shahril said the continued support and encouragement from various organisations and individuals had enabled UTS to build a stronger network of strategic partners.
He said each partnership played a distinct role in strengthening the university’s capacity to grow while ensuring it remained responsive to the needs of the Sarawak community.
“Every partnership plays an important role in helping UTS grow and serve the people of Sarawak,” he said.
He added that UTS would continue strengthening existing relationships while exploring new avenues for collaboration that could create greater opportunities for its students, the community and industry.
According to him, such efforts were crucial in widening access to educational and talent-development opportunities, while encouraging more research initiatives and knowledge-sharing programmes with tangible benefits for society.
“We hope these collaborations will continue to benefit our students, the community and the overall development of Sarawak,” he said.
Mohammad Shahril also expressed his appreciation to all UTS partners and friends for their trust, support and commitment towards the university.
He said the appreciation dinner was not simply an occasion to acknowledge their contributions, but also a reflection of the relationships and trust built between UTS and its partners over the years.
“Tonight is not only about appreciating the support we have received, but also about celebrating the friendship and relationships we have built together,” he said.
He expressed hope that these relationships would continue to deepen through more meaningful and high-impact collaborations, particularly those aimed at strengthening education, talent development and community wellbeing in Sarawak.
