MIRI: Quick action by neighbours helped prevent a kitchen fire from spreading to a house at Tudan Desaras here.
The fire, which broke out at about 2.15pm, Monday (Sept 7) at Lot 662, Phase 6, Lorong Harmoni 1A-1, involved a non-permanent kitchen structure measuring approximately 11ft by 11ft.
According to the Malaysian Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) Zone 6, Lutong Fire and Rescue Station received an emergency call at 2.15pm and dispatched a team to the scene.
Firefighters arrived at 2.24pm and found that the fire had already been extinguished by neighbours, who had used water drawn from a river behind the house.
The fire was estimated to have damaged about 10 per cent of the kitchen structure.
Firefighters conducted a safety inspection and confirmed that the fire had been completely extinguished, with no remaining sources that could potentially cause a rekindling.
No injuries were reported.
The operation was declared under control at 3pm and ended at 3.03pm. The firefighting team returned to Lutong Fire and Rescue Station at 3.18pm.
Two police personnel from the Royal Malaysia Police were also present at the scene.
The cause of the fire and the extent of losses are still under investigation.
