The Ministry of Industrial and Entrepreneur Development is in the process of setting up Miri Incubator Centre for Entrepreneurship (MICE) at Marina Bay Centrepoint, Miri.

This was disclosed by Assistant Minister of Entrepreneur and Small, Medium Enterprise (SME) Development, Datuk Mohd Naroden Majais (pic) during a Question & Answer (Q&A) session during DUN sitting, yesterday.

Naroden was replying to a question submitted by Lambir Assemblyman, Ripin Lamat.

“So far, the ministry has no plan to set up an Incubator Centre for Entrepreneurship in Lambir.

“However, the ministry will review the need to set up an “Anjung Usahawan” in the constituency to help entrepreneurs to develop their business,” he said, adding that Sarawak Economic Development Corporation (SEDC) also provides incubator facilities at Jalan Pujut, Miri.

In reply to Ripin’s question regarding whether MICE will introduce the concept of E-Commerce to rural entrepreneurs, Naroden said that every incubator centre in the state will be re-organised in order to focus on digital technology and its applications.

“A majority of rural communities already has mobile phones and most of them also have bought goods through online applications which it is part of E-Commerce. “When they buy items through online and transactions are also done online consumers are indirectly involved in E-Commerce,” Naroden said.
