37-year-old goes missing during fishing trip

KUCHING: A 37-year-old man in Kuala Sg Alo, Mukah is feared to have fallen into the sea and drowned after failing to return home from a fishing trip.

Zarina Bagek, 31, said her husband, identified as Lee Ah Leng, an asthmatic, had gone out on a fishing trip as early as 5am on Wednesday.

Later, at around 10.20am, a witness Roslan Ahmad who was on his journey back spotted the victim’s boat circling in the sea not far from Sg Alo.

Curious, he went closer to have a look but there was no sign of Lee in the boat.

Later, Roslan together with a few friends also combed the area in search of Lee but to no avail. They proceeded to tow Lee’s boat back to Kpg Litong jetty.

Fearing for the worst, Roslan called 999.

State Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) upon receiving the distress call immediately despatched a search and rescue team to the location.

As at press time, the SAR operation has yet to locate the missing person.
