KUCHING: Two teenage boys were arrested for allegedly performing a dangerous stunt on a motorcycle during an enforcement operation in Petra Jaya here.
Kuching police chief ACP Alexson Naga Chabu said the teenagers, aged 16 and 17, were riding the same motorcycle as the rider and pillion passenger.
They were spotted performing a wheelie stunt, lifting the motorcycle’s front wheel off the ground, which could have endangered themselves and other road users.
The case is being investigated under Section 42(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.
During ‘Ops Motosikal (Mat Rempit)’, the district Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Division also seized two motorcycles under Section 60 of the same Act after finding that they had been modified from their original specifications.
Throughout the operation, a total of 35 individuals and 30 motorcycles were inspected, while 24 traffic summonses were issued for various offences.
Alexson said the operation was conducted from 11pm on Aug 15 until 3am the following day at several locations, namely Jalan Astana, Jalan Tun Abdul Rahman Yakob, Jalan Tun Salahuddin, Jalan Gersik and Masja.
It was aimed at curbing illegal street racing and reckless riding while ensuring road users complied with traffic laws.
Members of the public are reminded to comply with traffic laws and regulations and avoid taking part in illegal street activities that could endanger their own lives as well as those of other road users.
