MIRI: Two local men were detained on Wednesday night at two separate locations in Permyjaya for allegedly attempting to extort RM5,000 from their employer.

The suspects aged 30 and 31 were detained during an operation conducted between 11 and 11.30pm on Wednesday.
The arrest was made following a report lodged by the suspects’ employer after he (the victim) was assaulted.

According to sources, on Monday night (July 22) , the two suspects had come to the victim’s house in Permyjaya here at 9pm, asking for outstanding wages which they claimed that the victim owed them for previous car repair work.

Sources added, both were enraged when the 35 year-old victim failed to comply with their demands as he has yet to receive payment from his customers, and due to financial constraints could not pay the suspects that night.

A suspect was reported to have sustained electrical shock injuries, as the suspect not only attempted to extort cash from him, but also discharged electric shocks to the victim.

The victim survived the ordeal and lodged a report. They also ‘humiliated’ the victim by taking nude photos of him, and threatened to expose the nude photos of him if he failed to comply with their demand for cash.

The case is being investigated under Section 385 of the Penal Code for putting a person in fear of injury as to commit extortion.
Miri deputy police chief Supt Sabri Zainol when contacted yesterday confirmed the arrests.
