SAMARAHAN: The state-level National MakeX Robotics Competition 2019 and Mini MakeX Robotics Competition were held at the UiTM Sarawak Campus here on July 24-25.
UiTM Sarawak Branch deputy rector for Research and Industrial Linkages, Associate Prof Dr Abang Zainoren Abang Abdurahman said that the main purpose of the programme was to inculcate interest among students from different stages in Stream (Science, Technology, Reading, Engineering, Arts and Mathematics) education and specialised robotics.
“Through this programme, the students will be exposed to the field of programming, electronic hardware and mechanical equipment as well as the opportunity to develop an understanding in automation, mechatronics and robotic systems.
“This programme can indirectly produce creative, critical and talented students in line with the Industrial Revolution 4.0.
“Besides, it provides opportunities and exposure to students to higher level programmes at the state, national and international levels to represent Malaysia in the Stream field,” he said when officiating at the closing ceremony.
The MakeX Robotics Competition was first initiated at the national level with the approval of the Education Ministry in 2018.
In December last year, four Robotics MakeX teams succeeded at the national level representing Malaysia in Guangzhou, China. The first-time participation witnessed one of the teams winning third place for ‘Technical Challenge’.
The success has motivated Telaga Biru to provide an exposure on the programme to primary and secondary schools’ students throughout the state especially in Kuching and Samarahan.
Participated by 11 schools, the two-day programme was divided into two categories, namely ‘MakeX Starter: City Guardian’ and ‘MakeX Challenge: Courageous Traveler’.
