KUCHING: Sarawak United People’s Party (SUPP) Youth chief Michael Tiang has lambasted Engkilili assemblyman Johnicol Rayong Ngipa (pic) telling him that his constituents voted him to represent them in the state legislature as a government lawmaker and not as an opposition member. Prior to that, Rayong had blasted GPS, accusing the coalition of arrogance for wanting its candidate to contest in Engkilili in the next state election.
“Rayong needs to remember that a majority of voters in Engkilili voted him in 2016 to represent them in the ruling coalition and not as an opposition lawmaker. “In 2016, when he was a direct Barisan Nasional (BN) candidate, he even promised Tok Nan (the then chief minister, Tan Sri Pehin Sri Adenan Satem) that if he won Engkilili seat, he would quit UPP (United People’s Party, a breakaway faction of SUPP).
“After he won, he refused to honour his words and remained in UPP. Now he has abandoned the government because his party, the UPP 2.0 or Party Sarawak Bersatu (PSB) is in opposition to GPS,” said Tiang. He then declared that SUPP Youth is supportive of Parti Rakyat Sarawak (PRS) Youth chief, Datuk Snowdan Lawan, who said that GPS is aiming to claim Engkilili in the next state election.
“What Snowdan meant was to make sure that people in Engkilili would not be neglected. After all, SUPP on behalf of GPS would free them from Rayong’s irresponsible hands,” Tiang said.
He urged the people in Engkilili to reject politicians who care for their own interests above those of their constituencies as it is morally wrong for an elected representative to change his political affiliation after being elected. To him it is in fact an insult to those who voted for them and so in the case of Engkilili, the politician in question should be written off for good.
