MIRI: Deputy Minister of Energy, Science, Technology, Environment and Climate Change, Isnaraissah Munirah Majilis, lauded the persistent efforts made by the various agencies to subdue the haze here.

Isnaraissah, who is Kota Belud MP, noted that the air quality index (API) in Kuala Baram had improved following an integrated operation of the agencies concerned and several private companies.

The API readings for SK Kuala Baram II and ILP Miri had also improved from ‘unhealthy’ to ‘fair’.
“The rain in recent days was quite a relief, too,” she said.

As of 9am yesterday, the API readings for ILP Miri and SK Kuala Baram II were 65 and 53, respectively. She said her ministry had activated the National Open Burning Action Plan and National Haze Action Plan on Aug 2 to coordinate the actions of the various government agencies in addressing the issues of open burning and how to tackle the haze situation in the country.

Isnaraissah called on the state government, private companies and landowners to continue to monitor fire prone areas.
“This includes looking out for any illegal encroachment into fire-prone plots by individuals,” she said.

Also present were Transport Minister Datuk Lee Kim Shin, Pujut assemblyman Dr Ting Tiong Choon and Miri Fire and Rescue Department chief Supt Law Poh Kiong.

Earlier, Isnaraissah and her entourage went to the Tudan Watch Tower and SK Kuala Baram II.
