KUCHING: Six local men were caught in an anti-drug dragnet after enforcement officers descended on suspected drug hotspots across the city in a bid to curb substance abuse.
The suspects, aged between 19 and 40, were among eight individuals screened during ‘Ops Cegah’, conducted by the National Anti-Drugs Agency (AADK) on Monday (Jul 27).
The operation covered Pasir Pandak, Taman Dahlia Matang, Kampung Parit Lama, Jambatan Jumaani and Kampung Tanjong Bako, all identified as areas of concern for drug-related activities.
Urine screening found four of the six suspects had allegedly abused methamphetamine, while one tested positive for benzodiazepine and another for ketum.
The remaining two individuals screened during the operation tested negative for drugs.
AADK said legal action has been initiated against the six suspects under Section 3(1) of the Drug Dependants (Treatment and Rehabilitation) Act 1983.
Five of the cases are also being investigated under Section 4(1)(a) of the Act, while one case falls under Section 6(1)(b).
The agency said it will intensify enforcement and detection operations to curb drug abuse while expanding prevention, treatment and rehabilitation initiatives to create safer, healthier and drug-free communities.
