KUCHING: Democratic Action Party (DAP) chairman Chong Chieng Jen has urged the Department of Irrigation and Drainage (DID) to swiftly investigate and address a severe soil erosion incident at Lorong Song 1A, Tabuan Heights.
Accompanied by his assistant, Michael Kong, Chong visited the site this morning (Nov 30) and expressed concern over the impact on four two-storey houses, whose fences and compound grounds have been compromised by the erosion.
“The affected homeowners are understandably worried about the potential for further damage. We hope the authorities will prioritise the restoration of their land,” Chong said in a statement.
Residents reported that the incident occurred late Friday night, triggered by heavy rainfall.
They have contacted the DID and are awaiting further action.
The Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) then assessed the situation and confirmed that the main structures of the houses are safe.
However, they have advised residents to exercise caution and contact authorities if needed.
Bomba has taken precautionary measures, including installing hazard warning tapes and suggesting covering the affected area with canvas.
