LUNDU: The Sultan of Pahang, Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri’ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah, will officiate at the opening of a mosque named after His Royal Highness in Telok Melano here this Friday (Aug 21).
The opening of the Al-Sultan Abdullah Mosque will take place at 11 am, according to a statement by the Sarawak Islamic Religious Department (JAIS).
Members of the public have also been invited to attend the ceremony.
The RM5 million mosque traces its beginnings to September 2023, when Al-Sultan Abdullah, who was then the Yang di-Pertuan Agong, performed the ground-breaking ceremony during the Kembara Kenali Borneo tour.
Built on a 1.2-acre site near the Pan Borneo Highway’s Kilometer Zero landmark, the mosque was designed to accommodate up to 500 worshippers.
Its design draws inspiration from traditional Malay mosque architecture found across the Nusantara region.
