MOSCOW: All iPhones to be released by Apple next year will be equipped with 5G technology, Nikkei Asia reported on Wednesday, citing informed sources.

The company will not be introducing any 4G models in 2022 and will start selling a version of its cheapest model, iPhone SE, that is compatible with 5G, according to Sputnik.

The iPhone SE is reportedly due to hit stores in the first six months of 2022 and will allegedly look like an updated version of the iPhone 8 and feature a 4.7-inch liquid crystal diode (LCD) display as opposed to the organic light-emitting diode (OLED) display which the company tends to use on its 5G products.

“It is pretty much decided that there won’t be a Mini next year, and there will be a relatively cost-effective version of the largest iPhone Pro Max instead. However, the designs for the detailed specifications for the four new models next year are not yet locked in,” a source told Nikkei.

Apple is relatively slow to catch up with the 5G trend as its competitors Samsung Electronics, Oppo, Xiaomi and Huawei Technologies have all released 5G smartphones by 2019, while the first iPhone to support 5G was released last year. – Bernama
