KUCHING: Arne Slot will leave Liverpool after a successful two-year spell that saw him guide the club to its 20th league title and back-to-back Champions League qualifications.
Appointed in June 2024, the Dutchman made an immediate impact by delivering the Premier League crown in his debut season, while also leading the Reds to the Carabao Cup final and the Champions League round of 16. His achievements earned him the League Managers Association (LMA) Manager of the Year award.
Liverpool also reached the Champions League quarter-finals in the 2025–26 campaign under Slot’s stewardship.
In announcing his departure, Liverpool’s ownership described the decision as a difficult one, praising the Dutchman’s contribution as “significant, meaningful and – most importantly of all to supporters and ourselves – successful”.
The club paid tribute to Slot’s work ethic, leadership and professionalism, while highlighting his place in Liverpool history as “the coach who delivered Liverpool’s 20th league title”.
“That accomplishment – made all the more remarkable as it arrived in his very first season in charge – was built on outstanding coaching and leadership every single day,” the statement read.
Liverpool also acknowledged Slot’s role in helping the club navigate one of its most difficult periods following the death of Diogo Jota, praising the compassion and humanity he displayed throughout the ordeal.
Despite the success achieved under Slot, the club said it had reached a collective conclusion that “change is necessary in order for the club to keep moving forward”.
“Arne leaves with our gratitude, with a Premier League title to his name, and with the knowledge that he and his family will always be welcomed back at Anfield,” the statement added.
Slot departs Anfield with his legacy secure, having delivered a historic league title and restored Liverpool to the summit of English football during his tenure.
