Emergency responders travelled more than 120km to reach the crash site after the collision at Simpang Long Laput, about 6km from Jalan Long Lama.

The victim, identified as Lidia Ubong Ann, was found trapped in the driver’s seat of her Proton Persona and was pronounced dead at the scene by medical personnel.

Two passengers in the car — a 19-year-old woman and a four-year-old boy — sustained injuries and were taken to hospital by ambulance before firefighters arrived. Their conditions have not been disclosed.

The 46-year-old lorry driver was unhurt.

Emergency services received the alert at 11.39am, and firefighters from the Marudi station arrived at 1.47pm before carrying out extrication work using specialised rescue equipment to remove the victim from the vehicle.

The body was later handed over to police for further investigation.

The operation involved five personnel and one vehicle from the Marudi fire station and concluded at 2.12pm after the area was declared safe.

Authorities have yet to confirm the cause of the collision, and investigations are ongoing.
