BAU: A 33-year-old local man has been arrested over the theft of a boat engine and two lorry batteries worth about RM10,000 from a factory here.
Bau police chief Supt Mohd Haide A Rahman said the company manager discovered the old boat engine missing from the factory at Jalan Lubang Angin on Aug 19.
The manager subsequently discovered that two lorry batteries belonging to the company were also missing the following day.
“Initial investigations found no eyewitnesses to the incident, but the factory is equipped with closed-circuit television (CCTV) cameras.
“CCTV footage showed a suspicious unidentified man entering the factory compound carrying a sack at about 1.15 pm on Aug 10,” he said.
Haide said the factory compound was fenced and its automatic gates were locked, with the suspect believed to have gained entry by climbing over the fence.
He said the stolen items, comprising an old boat engine and two lorry batteries, were estimated to be worth RM10,000.
“Following investigations, a 33-year-old local man was arrested by the Bau district Criminal Investigation Division.
“Police also seized a black Honda motorcycle, a motorcycle key and a Realme C15 smartphone,” he said.
Haide said the suspect denied involvement in the theft during questioning.
An application to remand the suspect will be made at the Bau Magistrates’ Court to facilitate further investigations.
The case is being investigated under Section 379 of the Penal Code for theft.
