BAU: Police are investigating the disappearance of a laptop used for teaching and learning from the computer room of SK Senibong here.
Bau police chief Supt Mohd Haide A Rahman said the Dell Latitude 3420 laptop was discovered missing at about 2 pm on Aug 12.
The school searched for the laptop around its premises but was unable to locate it.
“The laptop was kept in the computer room, which can be accessed by other individuals and is frequently used by teachers and pupils. The school also maintains records on the use of the room and laptops,” he said.
Haide said checks found that the last recorded use of the missing laptop by a teacher was on July 29, although the room continued to be used after that date.
He added that the computer room, located next to the teachers’ room, was not equipped with CCTV cameras.
“There were no eyewitnesses to the incident and the complainant does not suspect any particular individual at this time.
“However, based on the room being frequently used for classes and accessible to others, there is a possibility that someone with access to the room had taken the laptop,” he said.
Haide said police would record statements from teachers, pupils and other individuals with access to the computer room as part of investigations.
The case is being investigated under Section 380 of the Penal Code for theft in a building.
