BINTULU: The remaining areas of Bintulu will enjoy 5G internet connectivity speed by next year.
Premier Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg said Utilities and Telecommunications Minister Datuk Julaihi Narawi had contacted Digital Nasional Berhad (DNB) to upgrade the internet connectivity in the district.
“As of now, we have upgraded internet connectivity in several areas. Meaning that in 2024, all areas such as Kidurong, Samalaju and the rest of Bintulu will be upgraded to 5G.
“It is hoped that the upgrade can further increase internet speed here as Bintulu is an important area for the nation’s economy, especially for Sarawak,” he said.
Abang Johari was commenting on the progress of 5G connectivity in Bintulu when met by reporters during a visit to the Sarawak Petchem Methanol today (Jan 31).
For the record, in Sarawak’s effort to upgrade basic infrastructure by 2030, the state aims to achieve full 5G connectivity.
Abang Johari once said that the 5G connectivity will enable the relevant state agencies to collect data in real-time and complement the government’s efforts in urban planning, policymaking and disaster response.
