MIRI: A newly donated boat and 15-horsepower outboard engine worth RM10,000 are set to enhance safety and ease transportation challenges for teachers and students of Sekolah Kebangsaan (SK) Long Palai in Ulu Baram, which relies entirely on river access.

The contribution from Speedtrack Construction (E.M.) Sdn Bhd was made following an appeal from the school, which highlighted the urgent need for a dedicated boat to support the daily movement of its school community.

Telang Usan assemblyman, Datuk Dennis Ngau, said the facility was essential for SK Long Palai as the school has no road connectivity and depends on river transportation for its operations.

“This boat is not merely equipment, but an important facility that will help provide safer and more reliable transportation for the school community,” he said.

He said this after witnessing the symbolic handover ceremony of the boat and outboard engine from Speedtrack Construction (E.M.) Sdn Bhd’s Managing Director, Sunny Eu Tieng Ing, to SK Long Palai’s Headmaster, Benedett Nyuko, here on Saturday (July 18).

Dennis said the contribution reflected the importance of collaboration between the government, private sector, and local communities in addressing basic needs, particularly in rural and interior areas.

He also expressed his appreciation to Speedtrack Construction (E.M.) Sdn Bhd for its continued support towards rural education, including its previous contribution of 12 Smart TVs to SK Long Luteng and SK Ubung Emang to enhance digital learning facilities.
