KUCHING: Sarawak Culture Research Institute Society has launched a book titled ‘Sarawak Tua Pek Kong Heritage Trail’ at the Le Saigon Restaurant today (Jun 4).
Sarawak Cultural Research Institute Society president, Datuk David Teng officiated at the soft launching of the book to promote Sarawak’s cultural and heritage tourism.
However, the official launching of the book will be held on 17 June at the Le Saigon Restaurant at 2 pm.
The publication of the book is a result of a comprehensive two-year research project conducted by the Institute of Tourism Research and Innovation at Universiti Malaysia Sarawak (UNIMAS) and the Ministry of Tourism, Creative Industry, and Performing Arts Sarawak (MOTAC).

The project was led by chief editor associate professor Dr. Elena Chai and features an in-depth look at the 77 Tua Pek Kong temples throughout Sarawak.
The book emphasises on the unique social harmony and unity among the people of Sarawak by exploring the rich heritage of the Tua Pek Kong temples throughout Sarawak.
“The content is organised into three sections, covering the southern, central, and northern regions of the state and each section includes an introduction to the division, district, and sub-district where the temples are located,” said Dr Elena Chai.

She further stated that each temples listed in the book were assigned with GPS coordinates and QR codes to direct visitors to the location.
She cited that the book was to promote visitors to go out and explore the temples thus promoting Sarawak’s cultural and heritage tourism.
Dr Elena Chai mentioned the objective of the book was to foster a deeper appreciation of Sarawak’s rich heritage among locals as well as attracting visitors.
