LUNDU: The Selampit Bridge project is running 94 days behind schedule, prompting efforts to intensify recovery measures to address financial, material supply, logistics and site management constraints.
As of Thursday (Sept 24), the project had achieved only 41.09 per cent physical progress against the scheduled 79.05 per cent, while financial progress stood at 46.48 per cent compared with the targeted 80.64 per cent.
The latest progress was reviewed during a special meeting and site visit attended by Opar assemblyman Billy Sujang, which focused on identifying immediate measures to accelerate construction and implement the project’s catch-up plan.
Among the key issues highlighted was the phased disbursement of allocations from the Ministry of Rural and Regional Development (KKDW) to the Public Works Department (PWD), which has affected payment processes and the contractor’s cash flow.
The briefing also stated that payment for Interim Payment Certificate (IPC) No. 18, amounting to RM757,344.81, is currently being processed.
Several constraints involving the procurement and delivery of construction materials, including permanent casing, spun piles, girder materials, PC strands and ducting, were also identified as factors requiring immediate attention to ensure continuity of work at the site.
The meeting further examined resource mobilisation, subcontractor involvement, payments to suppliers, workforce productivity, as well as site management and supervision as part of efforts to strengthen the recovery plan.
The increase in diesel prices and transportation and logistics challenges in delivering construction materials were also taken into consideration in efforts to improve project progress.
The project has previously been granted an extension of time, with the revised completion date set for Jan 3, 2027.
The special meeting and site visit were held to coordinate actions among the relevant agencies and parties, resolve the identified constraints and strengthen monitoring to regain construction momentum.
The Selampit Bridge is a key infrastructure project expected to improve connectivity and facilitate movement for residents in Selampit, Kendaie and surrounding areas upon completion.
