KUCHING: Residents in several parts of Kuching may experience low water pressure or temporary supply disruptions after a major water pipeline burst along Jalan Tun Jugah this afternoon (Aug 12).
According to a statement, Sarawak Water said the 840 mm-diameter pipeline burst at about 3pm due to third-party works related to the Kuching Urban Transportation System (KUTS) project.
“The affected areas include Kenyalang Park, Upland, Song, Ong Tiang Swee, Simpang Tiga, Seladah, Kenny Hill, Jelutong, Pending, Kwong Lee Bank, Ang Cheng Ho, Tun Razak, Durian Burung, Sekama, Mendu, and Lumba Kuda roads, as well as surrounding areas.
“Repair crews have been deployed to the site and are isolating the damaged section of the pipeline so repairs can be carried out safely,” the water utility said in a statement.
Sarawak Water did not provide an estimated completion time but said repairs would be expedited and supply restored progressively as the work progressed.
“It cautioned that water pressure and supply could take longer to return to normal in areas farther along the distribution network.
“Some consumers may also temporarily receive discoloured or cloudy water as pressure builds up and disturbs sediment in the system,” it said.
Sarawak Water said it would flush the network where necessary to stabilise water quality.
Further updates on the repairs and restoration of supply will be issued through the utility’s official communication channels.
