SIBU: A 33-year-old local man was arrested after police seized more than one kilogramme of suspected marijuana during a raid at a premises along Jalan Bindang here on Tuesday (Aug. 11).
The operations, conducted at about 11:00 am on August 11, involved a team from the Narcotics Criminal Investigation Division of the Sibu District Police Headquarters (IPD).
Sibu District Police Chief, ACP Abang Zainal Abidin Abang Ahmad, said police detained the suspect before conducting a search on him.
“The search led to the discovery of 13 transparent and black plastic packets containing dried plants suspected to be marijuana.
“The total seizure had an estimated gross weight of 1,082.24 grammes and was valued at around RM3,000.
“Police also seized a Proton Persona car estimated to be worth RM6,000,” he said in a media statement today.
He said the suspect, who had no previous criminal record, was tested positive for THC (tetrahydrocannabinol) in an initial screening test.
The suspect has been remanded for seven days to assist in the investigation.
The case is being investigated under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952, which provides for the death penalty or life imprisonment upon conviction.
The suspect is also being investigated under Section 15(1)(a) of the same Act, which provides for a fine of up to RM5,000 or imprisonment for up to two years, or both.
He may also be placed under two years of supervision under Section 38B of the Act.
