BINTULU: Selangau Member of Parliament Edwin Banta emphasised that every Malaysian plays a crucial role in nurturing a strong sense of patriotism and national spirit.
He stressed that a robust sense of independence should be upheld by all individuals, irrespective of their affiliations or interests that may clash with national interests.
“Malaysians of diverse races and religions must continue to cultivate high resilience in confronting the challenges of globalization in the social, economic, and political realms,” he remarked.
These statements were made during the Kembara Merdeka Jalur Gemilang program for the Tatau District at the Tatau Sports Hall on August 28.
Edwin commended the Information Department for organizing such initiatives to promote the “Fly the Jalur Gemilang” campaign, which aims to kindle the spirit of patriotism among the populace.
On August 29, the Kembara Merdeka Jalur Gemilang Convoy arrived in Sibu and halted at the Sibu Central Market.


According to a post by Sibu Municipal Council (SMC) Deputy Chairman, Councillor Mohammed Abdullah Izkandar Roseley, the SMC, led by its Chairman Clarence Ting Ing Horh, warmly received the Kembara Merdeka convoy, accompanied by the Sarawak Information Department under the leadership of its Director Helmy Hamid.
“Kembara Merdeka will culminate at the University of Technology Sarawak (UTS), where the Malaysian flag will be handed over to the Head of State Tun Pehin Sri Dr. Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar during the Sarawak State-level National Day celebration in Sibu on August 31, 2024,” he mentioned in his Facebook post.
Sibu is set to host the Sarawak State-level National Day celebration this year.
