MIRI: Police on Sunday evening detained a man and his girlfriend for their alleged involvement in a break-in at a telephone repair shop at Jalan Miri-Bintulu last month.

The break-in caused the shop to lose about RM4,000.

Miri Police chief ACP Hakemal Hawari, said the man, aged 25, and his 27-year-old girlfriend were detained at a house at Mile 8, Kampung Bersatu Baru Jalan Miri-Bintulu around 6.30pm. During the arrest, police also recovered three handphones from the suspects.

Before the break-in which occurred on July 18, seven handphones belonging to customers were sent to the shop for repair and one was a brand-new phone.

One of the shop’s workers discovered the break-in around 9am when he was about to open the premises for business. He saw that the shutter door of the main entrance was damaged.

Images from the shop’s CCTVs showed an image of a man walking into the shop and grabbing all seven handphones before fleeing the scene.

The shop’s worker subsequently lodged a police report.

The case is being investigated under Section 457 of Penal Code for housebreaking.
