SIMUNJAN: The Simunjan Zone 2 Community Carnival 2026 served as more than a community gathering as it brought essential government services and information closer to residents through direct engagement with various agencies.
Batang Sadong Member of Parliament Rodiyah Sapiee said these programmes not only provided recreational activities but also strengthened ties among residents while creating opportunities for the community to access government services and information.
She said the carnival enabled residents to learn about government development programmes, undergo health screenings, obtain information on welfare assistance and local government services as well as gain exposure to safety and preparedness initiatives.
“Programmes like this are not merely for entertainment.
“More importantly, they strengthen relationships among us and make it easier for us to work together in developing Simunjan,” she said in her speech when officiating at the event at Simunjan Stadium Mini here on Sunday.
Rodiyah said the Sarawak government would continue to bring development to Simunjan while urging the community to remain united and maintain the spirit of cooperation.
She added that the participation of various agencies at the carnival reflected the benefits of bringing services closer to the people through direct engagement at the grassroots level.
Throughout the three-day event held from July 10 to 12 at Simunjan Mini Stadium, various activities were organised, including competitions, traditional sports, community health programmes, exhibitions and sharing sessions with government agencies to encourage wider community participation.
The carnival also saw participation from children, youth, women, senior citizens and local entrepreneurs, providing a platform for community members to take part in activities while promoting local products.
Rodiyah also expressed hope that the carnival would continue as an annual programme that strengthened unity and family ties among the Simunjan community.
