MIRI: CCTV footage of an air-conditioning compressor being stolen from an office in Bandar Baru Permyjaya has helped police track down and arrest a 37-year-old local man suspected of the theft.
Miri district police said the incident occurred at about 4am on Sept 14, when an unidentified individual was captured on CCTV removing an outdoor air-conditioning compressor from the exterior wall of the office.
Acting on information received and following intelligence gathering, police identified and located a suspect in connection with the incident.
The suspect allegedly attempted to flee when police approached to conduct a check, but was apprehended along Lorong Desaras 1A, Tudan Phase 6.
The arrest was carried out by a team from the Crime Prevention Branch (CPJ) of Miri Central Police Station, led by its station chief, ASP Goldy Jangan.
Police also seized an air-conditioning compressor that had been dismantled and is believed to be linked to the theft.
The seized item has been retained as evidence to assist further investigations.
The case is being investigated under Section 379 of the Malaysian Penal Code, which covers theft.
