KUCHING: A group of Sarawak Tribune workers, mostly graphic artists, decided to strengthen their friendship bonds on Labour Day last Friday by going for an All You Can Eat Friday Night Buffet Dinner.
The self-sponsored dinner took place at the Kenyalang Restaurant of Raia Hotel & Convention Centre Kuching, a four-star, award-winning hotel located directly across Kuching International Airport.
Chief graphic artist Rozyiah Saleh had been planning the Labour Day dinner since last year. She had also been patiently collecting RM10 monthly from each of her co-workers and friends for a year.
On Friday night, I was one of the Sarawak Tribune workers who turned up for the dinner at Kenyalang Restaurant. I was also the only editor present.
I joined the dinner because I worked closely with graphic artists in the office and appreciated very much their expertise and friendship.
Besides Rozyiah and deputy chief graphic artist, Dayang Nur Marziana, the graphic artists present were: Kertini Ballerina, Augustine Peing, Alexson Kunyu, Amirul Haziq, Haspah Ahmad, Regita Nen and Mohamad Ellias.
Also present were Circulation Executive Rahayu Taibi, IT Manager Maurice Ng and Haspah’s teenage daughter, Nur Husna Humaira.
The dinner, which featured Malaysian and local dishes, ran from 6.30 pm to 10.00 pm and was priced around RM88 nett for adults with discounted rates for children and senior citizens.
The dress code for the night was black and white and everyone arrived at the dinner dressed in black and white.
The food was mouth-watering and the company good.
I liked the Braised Lamb Cubes, Potato & Carrot, Salad, ‘Sambal’ (chilli-based condiment, paste or hot relish) and fried ‘Tempoyak’ (fermented durian paste).
I also loved the cappuccino which came from a machine while food enthusiasts would also love the Roasted Lamb.
Rozyiah was glad many of her co-workers attended the dinner.
“In the past, we usually had high tea or lunch together on Labour Day. Now, we have a dinner. It is a chance to strengthen our friendship bonds and relax from our daily routine.”
Rozyiah, who took lots of pictures of cakes during the dinner, said she liked the fried ‘Kueh Tiaw” (flat, wide rice noodles) and Braised Lamb Cubes.
Dayang Nur Marziana also welcomed the dinner. “It’s good to relieve stress and get to know each other outside the office,” she said.
Meanwhile, Ng, the IT Manager, said, “It is good to be here. I’m enjoying the food.”
During the dinner and after it, Rozyiah and Dayang Nur Marziana took many group pictures of us together.
Now, Rozyiah is already planning for next year’s Labour Day event. I wonder where we will go.
