KUCHING: A total of 170 hampers and 170 goody bags were handed out to young patients at Sarawak General Hospital (SGH) as Children’s Wish Society of Malaysia (CWS) spread early festive cheer in the paediatric ward on Saturday.
The initiative is part of CWS’ annual nationwide festive outreach, with Sarawak as this year’s focus, where volunteers and board members personally delivered hampers filled with snacks, treats and stationery to brighten the days of children receiving medical treatment during the holiday season.
CWS President, Teoh Teik Hoong, said the programme reflects the society’s commitment to supporting children facing critical health challenges.
“Christmas is a season of giving and we want these children to feel remembered, cherished, and supported.
“By bringing festive cheer directly to their hospital bedsides, we hope to ease the emotional burden they and their families carry while undergoing treatment,” he said.
“Sarawak holds a special place in our work this year and we are honoured to be here.”.
Founded 18 years ago, CWS has granted hundreds of wishes for terminally ill children, working with hospitals and families to bring joy and comfort.
“The impact of a fulfilled wish goes far beyond the gift itself. For many families, it becomes a precious memory and a source of happiness that lasts even in the face of unimaginable challenges,” Teoh added.
“Our mission is to bring smiles to the bravest children in Malaysia, especially when they need it the most.”
The Sarawak festive hamper programme is one of many nationwide CWS initiatives providing emotional support to young patients, relying on donations, sponsors and volunteers, with Malaysians encouraged to help spread hope, love and festive warmth to children across the country.
