SIBU: Komuniti Madani Datuk Robert Lau Hoi Chiew is not only committed to resolving local livelihood issues, but also hopes to secure more development opportunities for the this town’s western bank area in the future.
Its chief advisor Cr Kevin Lau Kor Jie said Sibu west bank areas had long faced water supply problems but with the recent commissioning of the Sungai Sadit Acute Water Treatment System, most of the water supply and low water pressure issues in the area have now been resolved.

“Besides the collective cooperation that brought about this improvement, Sarawak also benefits from a stable government and political environment, allowing the government to focus on solving problems, driving development, strengthening Sarawak, and securing more resources,” he said at the “An Evening With You” dinner gathering organised by the Kommuniti Madani Datuk Robert Lau Hoi Chew at Boi Ing Cafe YCF at Sg. Lebaan, West Bank here on Saturday.
The event, also to honour the Mother’s Day celebration, was also graced by Meradong assemblyman Datuk Ding Kuong Hiing.
Lau, who is also Sarawak United People’s Party (SUPP) Bawang Assan chairman, noted that the Sarawak government has been using its own funds and resources to improve basic infrastructure.
Apart from the Sungai Sadit Acute Water Treatment System, other long-term projects such as the upgrading of the Salim Water Treatment Plant are also underway to help improve Sibu’s water supply situation.
“We cannot continue relying solely on federal funding. Once Sarawak becomes stronger, we will have the capacity to secure our own resources to improve infrastructure and solve issues. That is what we hope to see,” he added.
He stressed that as Sarawak continues to grow stronger, his service team will continue working closely with residents and maintaining close engagement with the people, with the hope of bringing change and development to the western bank area, making it part of Sibu’s overall development while improving living standards and boosting economic growth.
“We should learn from our capable leaders like Ding, for under their leadership, we will emulate their footsteps and continue doing our work diligently and responsibly to bring a better future for everyone,” he said.
He also thanked residents for their continued cooperation and support towards his team.
According to him, regardless of their position, the team remains committed to serving the people and fulfilling their responsibilities, while hoping to continue earning the trust of the residents.
“We work together with all government agencies. If there are any livelihood issues, we can discuss and resolve them together. The strong support and turnout from residents during community gatherings also help strengthen relationships and unity.
“To us, this is also a source of motivation that encourages us to continue working closely with the people,” added Lau, who is also SUPP Youth chief.
