ULU TERU: The Sarawak government has reinforced its firm stance on project implementation, with all Public Works Department (JKR) contractors reminded to complete projects on schedule and in full compliance with specified standards, without compromise.

Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas stressed that any delays not only disrupt the state’s development momentum but also directly impact the well-being of the people, particularly those in rural areas.

“The Sarawak government will not tolerate delayed projects or those that fail to meet specifications. There is no excuse for intentional delays,” he said when speaking at the groundbreaking ceremony for the road upgrading project to Kampung Ulu Teru, Tinjar recently.

Uggah, who is also the Minister of Infrastructure and Port Development, urged JKR Sarawak to intensify continuous monitoring of project implementation to ensure progress remains on track.

“In the event of delays, action reports must be prepared immediately and corrective measures taken without hesitation. This is a trust entrusted to us by the people and for the state’s development,” he said.

In a related development, he said Marudi constituency is currently experiencing a surge in development, with 52 infrastructure projects worth over RM722 million approved.

Of these, 25 projects have been fully completed, while four projects valued at RM387 million are currently under implementation, and the remaining 23 projects worth RM335 million are at the tender preparation stage.

He said that these initiatives reflect the commitment of the Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) government to ensuring more balanced development, particularly in rural areas.

Touching on the Ulu Teru road project, Uggah said the RM45.2 million initiative involves the construction of approximately 23.4km of road, including the upgrading of 21.5km of existing roads and 1.9km of new roads built to JKR R1 standards.

“The scope of the project also includes the construction of six Rolled Steel Joists (RSJ) bridges, one concrete bridge, the installation of culverts, drainage systems, and road furniture to ensure user safety and comfort,” he explained.

He added that the project, which commenced on Dec 18, 2025, is scheduled for completion within two years, by December 2027.

Once completed, the project is expected to benefit 14 longhouses involving 397 doors and approximately 2,500 residents, while also extending benefits to another 35 longhouses with about 5,600 residents in the Ulu Teru area and surrounding, including Sungai Nat, Sungai Lamah and Bukit Limau.

Residents, he said, will no longer have to rely solely on existing routes, but will instead enjoy improved connectivity to towns, schools, clinics and agricultural areas.

Meanwhile, he said that since 2017, a total of RM5.49 million has been channelled through the Unit for Other Religions (UNIFOR) for renovation, maintenance and equipment procurement for places of worship in Marudi.

In addition, RM657,950 has been allocated for projects in six mission schools in the area.
