SERIAN: A married couple was killed on the spot in a three-vehicle accident along Mile 52, Jalan Serian-Sri Aman yesterday (May 28).
The accident, which occurred around 5.49 pm near Kampung Engkabang B, involved a lorry, a Toyota Hilux and a Perodua Bezza.
The Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) said firefighters from Serian station were dispatched to the scene, about 22km away, following an emergency call.
Upon arrival, rescuers found the Hilux driver and passenger trapped in their vehicle and immediately carried out extrication works.
Both victims, identified as Herman Bangga Aba and Stella Labau, aged 50, were pronounced dead at the scene by paramedics after being removed from the wreckage.
Their bodies were handed over to the police to be transported to Serian Hospital for post-mortem.
The 47-year-old lorry driver sustained a head injury and was taken to the hospital for further treatment.
Meanwhile, the Bezza driver and passenger, whose identities were not known, were not present at the scene when first responders arrived.
The team ended the rescue operation at 6.35 pm.
