SIBU: A 43-year-old disabled man was found dead after a fire broke out in a hotel room along Jalan Tukang Besi here early this morning (April 18).

The victim, identified as Johnathan Goh Yow Chyang, was discovered inside the bathroom of the ground-floor room.

The Fire and Rescue Department received a distress call at 6:53 am and arrived at the scene two minutes later.

The fire, which engulfed a room measuring about 10 by 16 square feet, was brought under control at 6:58 am.

Firefighters used a 200-foot hose line with one jet, along with a first-aid hose reel, to extinguish the blaze.

“The victim was found inside the bathroom and was confirmed dead at the scene,” Bomba spokesperson said.

The body was handed over to the police for further action.

A total of 10 personnel from the Sibu Sentral fire station, assisted by one fire engine and an emergency medical rescue services (EMRS) unit, were deployed to the scene.

The operation concluded at 8:40 am.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
