KUCHING: A family in Kampung Semariang Batu here has been displaced after their house collapsed, believed to be due to weakened support pillars.

A team from the Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) Petra Jaya station was deployed to the scene at about 12.08 pm today to assess the situation.

Bomba said the collapse had occurred a day earlier, at around 3.15 pm on Friday.

“The incident is believed to have been caused by deteriorated pillars, which led to the structure collapsing,” a Bomba spokesperson said.

The damage involved the floor, walls and roof, which gave way to the lower section of the house.

No injuries were reported.

Residents in the area assisted in salvaging belongings, while the occupants were advised to temporarily relocate to a safer place pending further action from relevant authorities.

Bomba personnel later confirmed the area was safe before ending the operation at 12.35 pm.
