KANOWIT: A local man was rescued from his sport utility vehicle (SUV) after it fell into a flooded drain along Jalan Lukut-Penyulau here in the early hours of this morning.
Firefighters from Kanowit station were dispatched to the scene after being alerted to the incident at 2.08 am. They found a man trapped in his Perodua Aruz, which had submerged in the flooded drain.
However, the rescue team faced challenges as the floodwaters had risen to waist level, impeding their access to the victim.
Despite their efforts, their vehicle proved incapable of navigating through the waterlogged terrain. Consequently, they requisitioned a taller vehicle from Kanowit police. Yet, even the police vehicle failed to traverse the inundated area.
With no other viable option, the rescue team proceeded on foot to reach the victim and rescue him.
