KABONG: A family of five was left with nothing but the clothes on their backs after their single-storey wooden house in Kampung Tengah Perpat was destroyed in an afternoon blaze yesterday (July 16).

Fortunately, no one was injured as the residents managed to escape to safety in the 3.40 pm incident.

A spokesman for the Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) said firemen from Saratok station were promptly despatched to the scene after being alerted.

The team faced a minor setback as the road to the village was narrow and they had to bring the firefighting equipment to the scene via a pickup truck.

By the time they arrived, the fire was at its height.

The firefighters brought the flames under control but not before the fire caused minor damages to another house.

The cause of the fire and losses incurred are still under investigation.
