KUCHING: A total of 31 foreign nationals were detained in a two-day enforcement operation targeting food premises and plantation workers’ housing in Kuching and Sebuyau.

The operation, carried out by Sarawak Immgration Department took place from Apr 6 to 7, involved 23 enforcement officers.

During inspections at several eateries around Kuching, 21 foreign nationals were picked up for suspected violations of immigration laws.

The operation continued later that night with a raid on private oil palm plantation workers’ housing in Sebuyau, where additional arrests were made, bringing the total number of detainees to 31.

All those detained have been taken to the Immigration Detention Depot for further investigation.

The department reaffirmed its commitment to intensify enforcement efforts against immigration offences.

It also issued a stern reminder to employers and individuals to comply with immigration regulations, warning that strict action will be taken against those found in violation.
